Monday Afterschool Clay for Kids October 5-26, 4:45-6:00

$140.00

In this fun fall afternoon class for kids ages 6-12, they can try lots of different activities with clay: wheelthrowing, handbuilding, making pottery and sculpture, and plenty of free play time with the material. They will also tour around the property to check out our kilns, participate in local clay digging and processing, meet our Resident Artists, and check out our ceramics collection.

The bus from the Mendocino K8 drops off at F Rd on Albion Ridge around 4:10, and clay class teachers will be at the bus stop to greet kids and walk them the short distance down our little dirt road to Cider Creek. Kids can have a snack and run around for a bit, then we’ll gather indoors in the studio at 4:45. We have plenty of handmade cups and good drinking water, and you should send kids to school with extra snacks and clothing that can get dirty.

Once kids finish whatever magic they’ve concocted in their hour or so in the studio, they can head outside with one of the teachers to run around; we have 5 fenced acres of open space (with good visibility) and 5 big friendly furry dogs who love kids.

All kids are welcome, little ones ages 3-5 are best accompanied by an adult.

Our Monday Kids Clay Teachers

Shasta Patrizio

Shasta is a lifelong resident of the Mendo coast, mom of two, and works with kiddos at Pillbugs School in Caspar. She has 20+ yrs experience in early childhood development and is training in Waldorf teaching methods. Shasta says “I consider myself an avid protector and advocate for each child’s unique imagination. I aspire to help create a loving, supportive community where we can learn from our changing times and the wisdom of children.”

Sam Hill

Sam is a clay artist with a degree in art and media studies and a post-Bacc in ceramics, and has been a resident artist at Cider Creek since summer 2025. He came to us via Brooklyn, NY and super high recommendations from friends at the U of Oklahoma, and we feel really lucky to have him here. He’s been steadily tending our garden and putting down roots in Albion with his partner Elizabeth, who loves to work with kids as well!
